Since joining the ASAP community, I’ve reached several exciting milestones that have shaped my career. One highlight was successfully executing an Analyst Day event alongside my VP, which brought together internal and external partners and led to me receive our CEO award for being performance driven. This recognition fueled my drive to achieve even more. Additionally, as the lead for our Employee Engagement Committee, my dedication and initiatives have led my personal board of directors to nominate me for our organization’s new Global Cultural ERG Steering Committee—a true honor and a meaningful opportunity to support our belonging and inclusion initiatives across the company.
Connecting with other admins through ASAP has truly helped me recognize the value of my daily contributions. Seeing others share stories of quick thinking, resourcefulness, and camaraderie has shown me that the ‘wins’ I achieve each day are worth celebrating. ASAP has not only connected me to peers who understand the unique challenges of our roles but has also reminded me to value my own efforts and see their importance. This community has boosted my confidence, knowing that what I bring to my organization is both appreciated by others and worth appreciating myself.
My advice to others in the ASAP community is to remember that sharing your wins isn’t boasting, it’s a way of inspiring and uplifting each other. While many of us may feel shy about highlighting our achievements, sharing them helps us recognize the value in our day-to-day efforts, especially when they might be uncelebrated within our organizations. By sharing with peers who understand the unique demands of our role, we’re not only receiving encouragement but also empowering others to appreciate their own successes. This peer support is invaluable for building confidence and celebrating the impact we make.
The ASAP webinar Career Mapping: From Assisting to Leading by Madelyn Mackie had a transformative impact on my career outlook. I had been feeling stuck, questioning if I was more than "just an assistant," and this session helped me see the potential to lead within my role. Madelyn’s guidance inspired me to take control of my career path rather than just going through the motions. By steering my own direction, I’ve gained a renewed sense of purpose, avoided burnout, and found deeper satisfaction in my role.
My next career goal is to achieve my PACE certification by December 2024 and to continue applying the skills and insights I gain from ASAP resources to my role. Looking further ahead, I aim to become Chief of Staff by 2027, leading and mentoring an admin team. By staying active in training and networking, I’m confident these resources will support my journey toward leadership and continuous professional growth.
