Admin of the Month: Elizabeth Janowski

Our Admin of the Month for July 2024 is Elizabeth Janowski, Senior Coordinator at MultiCare Health System.

How did you get into the administrative field and how has your role changed since being in the profession?

I began my administrative journey after looking for a career change after college. I started out as a Programming and Scheduling Coordinator at a clinic offering therapy to children on the autism spectrum. I then transitioned into hospital-based care, working in the administrative spaces in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Clinical Laboratories, and now Information Services. 

The biggest change I’ve seen in the field is in regards to remote work. When I started, very few worked remotely.  Today, however, almost everyone on my team is fully remote. I love remote work and was lucky enough to have started remotely pre-COVID. You do have to make the conscious effort to get to know your coworkers and build strong team morale, even if you are scattered all around the country.            

What is your favorite part of your job? 

What I love most about my job is that I get to help people. Those whom I support are incredibly busy and are pulled in so many different directions. If I am able to make their life even a littler easier, then I have succeeded in my role as an administrative professional. 

What are you most proud of as an Admin?

I am most proud of always leading with kindness. Everyone has struggles and things going on behind the scenes that you may not be aware of. If someone is rude or upset, it’s almost never about you. Give them a little grace and don’t take it too personally. Continue to put kindness out to the universe, always.    

How has ASAP supported your personal and professional growth? 

I have been an ASAP member for many years.  I love all of the incredible resources that are provided to members, many free of charge. Whether it be listening to the monthly podcast or attending a webinar, there is always something I can access to help me become better at my job. I also love how ASAP spotlights the importance of administrative professionals in the workplace. We so often float under the radar and don’t always receive the recognition for how seamlessly and easy we make our jobs appear. ASAP recognizes this delicate balance and celebrates it.  

What is your professional superpower?

Being resourceful is my professional superpower.  No matter how difficult or foreign a task is to me, I will always find a way to figure it out.    

More About Elizabeth:

Elizabeth Janowski graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2004, majoring in Elementary and English Education. Believe it or not, being a classroom teacher is very similar to being an administrative professional.  Both require you to wear many hats; have excellent communication skills; be kind, patient, and calm in nature; excel at multi-tasking; be incredibly resourceful; showcase your organizational skills; build meaningful relationships where trust and respect are essential; and laugh and have fun!

Elizabeth has worked in healthcare administration for the past fifteen years. In 2020, she was awarded the Rock Solid Award for Epic Integrated Services. She is currently a Senior Coordinator at MultiCare Health System, supporting the Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer, as well as the Information Services department. She enjoys the challenges that each new day brings and loves continuously evolving in her career.   

Outside of work, Elizabeth loves traveling and spending time with her family. Her greatest role is serving as her daughter’s biggest hockey fan and cheerleader.
